The Mexico Open is a very important event on the PGA tour that allows PGA Tour professionals to explore the culture and rich history of golf in Mexico. It’s hosted at the Vindanta Vallarta course, part of the Vindanta Nuevo Vallarta Resort in Mexico. This is the national Open of Mexico and regarded as one of the country’s most-watched Events. It features a full field of 144 players but isn’t classified as a designated event so the purse isn’t quite that large.
The purse at the 2023 Mexico Open
The overall purse at this year’s Mexico Open is $7.7 million. Though this is not quite as high as the purses we’ve seen in designated events, it’s still an improvement of about $400,000, a modest 5% increase compared to the purse at the 2022 Mexico Open. The winner of this year’s event will be awarded a payday of $1,386,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points. This is still a very good paycheck, designated or not.
How much do caddies make at the Mexico Open?
The winning caddie at this year’s Mexico Open, will be in a position to take home $136,800. This is the usual 10% caddies earn for being on the winning bag and comes in at just under 5% more than Jon Rahm’s caddie, Adam Hayes, took home at the 2022 Mexico Open. The remaining caddies that make the 36-hole cut will all be vying for a share of the $526,910 purse available to caddies.
