The Players Championship is one of the most coveted titles on the PGA Tour. This being a designated event, we can expect nothing short of a drama-filled weekend. The field consists of 144 players, representing 20 countries. As far as star power, we have 43 of the top 50 players in the world competing to take home the coveted trophy. As we’ve come to learn about designated vents, we can also expect a pretty large, record-setting purse for the players that make the weekend.
This weekend did not disappoint. We saw a few lead changes that led up a one shot lead by Scottie Scheffler after 54 holes. On Sunday, that lead ballooned to 5 shots, with Scheffler securing the victory to hoist him back into number one in the world golf rankings.
The purse at the 2023 Players Championship
The overall purse at the Players Championship is a massive $25 million. This is the largest pot we’ve seen so far in the 2023 PGA tour season and was more than enough incentive to elevate the level of play even more. With the win, Scottie Scheffler gets to take home $4.5 million. This is a 25% bump compared to what Cameron Smith took home at the 2022 Players Championship. With this large a pot, the caddies are also in for a massive payout opportunity.
How much does the winning caddie make at the Players Championship?
The winning caddie at the 2023 Players Championship is Ted Scott. Ted is expected to take home $450,000, the usual 10% of the winner’s share and a 25% improvement compared to what Sam Pinfold took home last year. For additional context, Tim Tucker took home $90,000 less for being on the winning bag at the Arnold Palmer Invitational just one week before.
